CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

MAKE-UP WORK
Whenever a student is absent, I prepare an assignment sheet listing all of the day’s work. You may choose to come by after school and pick up your child's make-up work, or I will keep it at your child's desk until he/she returns. Your child will have one extra day for each day absent to complete the work.

PROGRESS REPORTS
Around the fourth week of every quarter, a progress report will be sent home with each student. The intent of the progress report is to alert you to any problems your child may be experiencing at school, academically or behaviorally. It does not mean that your child cannot improve his/her grade or behavior before report cards are sent home. If you have any questions about the progress report, I would be happy to schedule a conference with you to discuss it.

TESTS
A major part of your child’s grade in any subject is his/her performance on chapter tests. All tests are announced well in advance so there is no reason for your child to be unprepared. During class time, it is important for your child to listen and ask questions when he/she doesn’t understand. Before any major test, I encourage students to reread the chapter, review classroom notes, review all assignments and worksheets, and make sure they can define all the boldface words.

VACATIONS
We discourage taking vacations during the school year. If you find it necessary to take a vacation during the year, I will keep a list of assignments missed for your child to make up when he/she returns to school.

BIRTHDAYS

We look forward to celebrating each child's birthday! However, we ask that no treats be sent to school.

BOOK ORDERS

I try to send home a Scholastic Book Club order each month. It will be in the Friday folder and is due the following Friday. You may send the paper order and money back to school, or you may order on line at scholastic.com/bookclubs. My Class Code is GXVG4.

WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORTS
Communication between home and school is vital. As an effort to keep communication open, your child will receive a Friday folder. Enclosed in the folder will be a weekly progress report. Since communication between home and school is so important, we require that the folder be returned by Monday or Tuesday.

HOMEWORK
Homework is an essential means of reinforcing and extending your child’s learning. As each assignment is given during the day, it will be written on the homework board. I will give the students time to copy their assignments in their planners. Daily homework assignments are due on the day specified. If the student forgets his/her assignment, it will be considered late. An assignment is considered incomplete if 3 or more problems are not finished. If the assignment has 10 or fewer problems, any problem that is not finished will result in an incomplete assignment. Please sign the “Late/Incomplete Work” sheet and send it to school the next day with the completed assignment. The student will receive a grade reduced by 10 points. The consequence of 4 or more late/incomplete assignments in a week will be a detention.

SPECIAL PROJECTS & REPORTS
From time to time, your child will be assigned a special project or report. Usually, since more time is spent on these assignments, more quality will be expected, and more weight will be assigned in terms of averaging grades. Projects and reports are due on the date specified. One letter grade will be deducted for each school day past the due date that the project or report is late.
